Girls FIRST Robotics Program
Session 1: Sarasota- August 4th - 8th   2008
Program Description
--The GIRLS FIRST workshop is designed for students, ages 11-15 to be an exciting, yet intense and fulfilling opportunity for the child to gain hands-on knowledge and experience learning basic physics, science, math, technology, and robotics.

--They will be given a challenge to solve that will require them to visualize, experiment and predict the outcome of their decisions prior to doing hands-on activities.

--The girls will then be placed onto small teams and will receive instructions to construct the robot according to the challenge associated with their prediction to solve the challenge.

--Mentors will review the results generated by each student. The review will re-emphasize the information each student learned in the educational modules giving both the mentor and the student an opportunity to gauge the comprehension of the information learned during the exercises.

--During each session, each student will be assigned to a mentor, who is a paid college student with a backround in robotics, physics, and math.

--Each mentor will fill out a Pinellas County Volunteer form and will be thoroughly investigated according to Pinellas County guidelines. An adult who has met the criteria as established by the Pinellas County Volunteer guidelines will supervise each session.

--The currciculum for each workshop is designed by J. Paul Wahnish, SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), a member of the faculty and a coach at East Lake High School and Ron Hartman, Honeywell Systems Engineer for Space Guidance and Navigational Products.

--Tuition per child for the session is $365.00

-- Included in the tuition is a tee shirt and snacks.

-- All of the money generated from tuition for the summer workshops after expenses, (salaries, expenses, travel, incidentals, etc.), will be donated to the East Lake Engineering Academy and the East Lake Robotics Team.
